This paper discusses some methodological problems of the analysis of foreign language interaction (nonnative (NNS)-native (NS)/nonnative speaker (NNS)) in relation to second language acquisition, the most prominent of which are the type of data analyzed and the assumed model of communication. Problems regarding the introduction of core concepts of conversation analysis into research on NS-NNS interaction are also analyzed.
