Annotation

This study uses analyses of conversational interactions in English, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese to distinguish among several types of 'Reactive Tokens ' (RT) and to demonstrate that the three languages vary in terms of the types they favor, their frequency of use and their distribution of RTs across conversational units. RTs are defined as short utterances of an interlocuting listener during another interlocutor's speakership.
