This paper examines and exemplifies in English and Hebrew two exceptions on the practice of uniform translation of the INTERNATIONALE: the covert encoding of different ideologies and the explicite decision to update old contents in order to adapt the anthem to relevant issues. It then discusses the underlying ideological 'motors' of the change and the discursive strategies used to obtain the desired ideological effects.
