Annotation
This paper discusses maxim confluence, a type of interaction not discussed by Grice, but introduced by Myers-Scotton, in which two maxims enjoin the same speaker behavior, albeit for different motivations. Two examples of maxim confluence are presented, namely that of code choice among bilinguals with different native languages and choice of second person pronouns or address forms in different European languages.
