This contrastive analysis of discourse organization in English and Italian business letters underlies the extension of a computer-based training system designed to help Italian students write effective business letters in English, as making their rhetorical tradition visible to them contrastively develops their cognitive awareness which helps them realize that discourse organization is a matter of making intrinsically culture bound choices.
