Annotation

This study proposes the results of a research project on the dialect of Copenhagen, carried out within the inner city's Nyboder area with a stable and traditional population and a certain social differentiation. The project examines the relationship of the Copenhagen dialect with gender, social class and style shifting. It is shown that the speaker variables of gender and social class both determine the interaction, as men speak more than women and middle-class speakers ask more questions and give more expansive answers than lower class speakers. As for the style analysis, different styles appear in rhytmic variation throughout the interview, as the relations between speaker and interviewer change.
