Annotation

This book discusses two styles of spoken Bengali, based largely on religious distinctions between Hindus and Muslims. The major differences are to be found in lexical items rather than in syntax and morphology, as Hindus use a greater amount of Sanskritic vocabulary whereas Muslims prefer words derived from Arabic and Persian via Urdu.
