This collection of papers offers empirical investigations of transcriptions of naturally occurring conversations in news interviews, doctor-patient interactions, direction-giving, openings in telephone conversations and arrangements of conversational closings, situated as examinations of 'talk and institutions' and 'structure-in-action'. Furthermore it is argued that conventional notions of action and structure, and the relations between talk and social structure, should be respecified.
