Annotation

This book investigates how wel children from 4 to 7 years old can use speech appropriate to the roles of parent, doctor or teacher, considering features of register, style, sex and age. It reports on three quantitative measures (average amount of speech; mean length of utterance; and mean length of turn) and on the paralinguistic, phonological and lexical features used in the different roles. Speech forms are also analyzed in their function as speech acts.
