Although the options for code-switching structures appear to be universally set, as demonstrated in a model of intrasentential code-switching, community-specific or group-specific social forces may determine macro-level preferences, whilst discourse-based factors may engender micro-level preferences, as specified in a model of social motivations for code-switching.
