Annotation

This study examines Baatombu (Benin) techniques of accomplishing face-threatening acts via indirect verbal communication, and particularly the doubly indirect way involving proverbial dog names, allowing the owner to use a pseudo-addressee, -the dog-, and to forward the message with a proverb.
