Annotation
This paper focuses on the role and function of the connective AND as question preface in informal medical encounters. It is argued that in such contects AND-prefacing links a question with a routine character to a preceding question/answer pair or pairs. The general characteristics of AND-prefaced questions are contrasted with "follow-up" or "contingent" questions.
