This article demonstrates that nonsexist innovations often lose their neutrality when appropriated by a sexist, in casu feminist, speech community and then examines the extent of redefinition and depoliticization of feminist linguistic innovations as they become integrated in a larger, often sexist, and not predominantly feminist speech community.
