Annotation

This article examines the nature and the repercussions of a specific type of linguistic discrimination in the US, based on accent, referred to as language-trait focused (LTF) discrimination, whilst situating the phenomenon in workplace and courtroom settings. Although the US judicial system in theory recognizes the link between language and social identity, in practice it often adheres to a standard language ideology.
