This book on preschool education contains two major parts. The first covers its history from the early dame schools to current kindergarten, with particular attention to the role of reading instruction. The second considers M.'s late 1980's study on New York state policy analysts' beliefs regarding public schools for 4-year-olds and the reconceptualization of these issues.
