Annotation

This volume discusses the multifunctionality of discourse strategies, situational influence on gender-related language use and the connection between theory and methodology. The first part, "Talking among friends", deals with this multifunctionality and the social constructionist view of speakers in creating their social worlds. The model analyses of conversational interaction in Part two, "Conflict talk", address the influence of situation on gender-related language. Part three, "The relativity of discourse strategies", presents revisions of metaphoric understanding of power and solidarity. Part four, "Critical reviews of the literature", includes interruption studies and a study of quantity of talk.
