Annotation

This analysis of address forms in Yoruba demonstrates that choices are primarily guided by the perceived social relationships defined by age, kinship and social status. Though the system shares a certain universality with that of other languages, there are some unique features, such as the fact that age supersedes rank in dyadic interaction.
