Drawing on interactional sociolinguistics and on ethnomethodological conversation analysis, R. introduces the central analytical notions of discourse topic and frame to examine (the lack of) coherence in admittance and discharge psychiatric interviews, involving the same two speakers, a female doctor and a female patient, at the Psychiatric Institute of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
