The 14 research papers of this volume fall into two major categories. The first contains mainly theoretical discussions in three areas: interdisciplinary perspectives on language and linguistics, reflections on the notion of subject or person and examination of speech. The second categorie provides a mixture of theoretical and empirical approaches to the study of linguistic variation and meaning, sometimes with special attention to the study of multilingual situations and creoles.
