Annotation

In this update of the analysis of North American linguistic anthropology and related domains from 1974 up to the 1990s, M. uses the scientific specialty as his unit of analysis for a functionalist sociology of science, focusing on scientists' actual behavior. In the light of the conflict model of scientific revolutions, the social and intellectual properties of a wide range of theory groups are discussed. It is demonstrated that the status of language study declined within anthropology during the 1980s.
