Annotation

This book provides valuable information on the processes of identity formation among French-born individuals living in the US. French migration to the US appears to be an individually oriented process characterized by a high level of integration into American employment and educational sectors, high intermarriage rates, high rates of residence among non-French people, a low degree of outwardly cohesiveness with co-ethnics combined with a strong internal link to the country of origin. Therefore, it is argued that French-born immigrants form more a cultural community than an ethnic group.
