Annotation

This qualitative and quantitative analysis of the modern Hebrew expression KE'ILU -like, as if-, explores the functional itinerary of this word in Hebrew discourse, revealing four nonliteral functions: self-rephrasal, focus-marking, hedging and quotation. A comparison with the English and French equivalents LIKE and GENRE leads to a discussion of crosslinguistic functional parallellism.
