Annotation

This paper investigates interactional misunderstanding caused by narrative variation in protective order interviews against domestic violence involving Latina women and paralegal interviewers. Narrative outcomes appear to be heavily influenced by particpants' social roles, their interactional goals, and the type of conversation engaged in. What constitutes appropriate speech behavior tends to be imposed -if expectations differ-by the interlocutor who has greater institutional power.
