Annotation

This volume shows that the English dominance in science, caused by the search for a common auxiliary language for international cooperation, varies in type, degree and effects across countries and language communities. Thus sections II to IV distinguish between countries with a history of English-language dominance, countries that use(d) languages for science different from or in addition to their native tongues and countries and language communities that until recently used their own language as language of science.
