This study of 'apology negotiation' in Polish uses Brown and Levinson's politeness theory as an analytic-descriptive framework to examine how speakers manipulate the social factors that determine the seriousness of face threatening acts: participants' relative power; the social distance between the participants; and the ranking of imposition of a given act.
