This paper analyzes different types of conversational closings in Finnish social welfare encounters on income subsistence and alcohol abuse, involving: closings with mutual alignment, reflecting mutual agreement on meaning and outcome of the interaction; closings without mutual alignment, reflecting disagreement; and closings with alignment shifts.
