On the underlying differences between (composite) sentences and sequences of sentences, from a semantic and a pragmatic perspective. Among the issues considered in this respect are: the distribution of presupposition and assertion; ordering and type of speech acts; focus and perspective; change of scene and topic; introduction of new referents; and change of speaker in conversation.
