This paper analyzes parents' and therapists' diverging definitions of the problem that lies at the origin of the by the school requested therapeutic interviews, viz. children's learning disabilities. In order to understand these interactional processes, one has to consider the meso- and macrosocial contexts of the consultation and the parties' definition of the consultation situation.
