This paper which analyzes the metaphors used in reference to the euro in various British and Italian newspapers published around the official euro-introduction date of 1 January 1999, reveals that although the two languages share the most frequent metaphorical patterns, they differ in realizing these patterns. Both languages also appear to employ novel metaphors rhetorically, to back specific views of the monetary union.
