This study of adverbial clauses in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese discourse, reveals that, whilst conditional, concessive and temporal clauses occur before the material with which they are associated, causal clauses either take a final position with regard to the associated material (spoken data) or an -evenly distributed- initial or final position (written data).
