Annotation

This paper explores patterns and meanings of personal address used in the American church community of the Good Samaritan in the Pacific Northwest. These are consistent with classic (correlational) studies in as far as they reveal patterns in the selection of adress options and an interpretation of social meanings of address behavior drawing on knowledge of conventional rules. Yet there is adherance to a discursive rather than a determinate model of personal address which provides certain options.
