In this reply to West's critical comment on 'Competing discourses' and the PDA-approach, B. develops two supplementary, interrelated themes. It is argued that by the acceptance of an element of ambiguity and the tolerance for competing subjectivities in scholarly debate, PDA offers a supplementary form of discourse analysis to CA and CDA.
