Annotation
This study reviews 400 year of semicolon use in one English genre and provides an account of the actual frequency of intermediate marks in a corpus of texts relevant to language teaching, in order to inform punctuation teaching on the basis of both manuals' conventionalized theories and practical observations of the relative importance of the different marks.
