Annotation
This comparative study of American and Syrian compliment responses suggests that both are more likely to accept or mitigate than to reject the compliment. Differences are found in the use of appreciation tokens, which appear more frequent in US data, and in the acceptance+formula response, which only appears in Syrian data.
