This contribution to the theory and practice of language teaching and language acquisition consists of three parts. A basic theme of the first part is the mediation process between theory and practice. The second part deals with aspects of language such as the necessity of grammar for communication, the relation between grammar and lexis and meaning negotiation. The third part, devoted to some aspects of teaching, considers syllabus design, teaching meaning and teacher and learner roles.
