This book on adult second language acquisition introduces the reader to modern (Chomskyan) linguistics, provides a rather controversial theoretical approach to research in adult second language development and distinguishes between scientific and pedagogical grammars. It is argued that scientific grammars should form the theoretical basis for pedagogical grammars.
