Annotation

This paper tries to show on a grammatical basis that any imperative requires three speech acts and thus must have a multi-layered structure, more specifically one with three layers each representing a specific type of speech act. It is suggested that the obtained imperative frames are universal mental representations which are expressed by aspect (e.g. in Russian), modal particles (e.g. in Danish) or indirect speech acts (e.g. in English).
