This paper deals with the comprehesion of the meaning of bilingual code-switching, and with the ways of bilingual communication between speakers with different abilities and attitudes towards the two languages involved. Examples are drawn from code-switching in crossgenerational Chinese-English family talk, with special attention for preference organization.
