These conference proceedings (New York, 1997) present extremely diverse articles on language, culture, society, nationalism, immigration, ethics, literay tradition etc. as a coherent whole. Contrary to the cover claim, the contributions do not investigate how Europe's classical heritage and its literary and cultural traditions will serve Europe in the 21st century.
