Annotation

E. tries to demonstrate that Searle's 'illocutionary acts' are concepts evoked by the matching illocutionary terms in English, and as such have little direct application to the analysis of conversational behavior, since they are common sense, rather than technical. He attempts to show some interrelations between illocutionaty terms in English by considering systematically distinguished categories of the events these terms may be used to refer to, thus showing what types of communicative behavior are socially significant for English speakers.
