This paper explores the echo of the Greek diglossic past and of the language question over the past decades as reflected in the description of the synchronic state of language in the two most recent and authoritative Modern Greek dictionaries: the Dictionary of Modern Greek by G. Babiniotis and the Dictionary of Common Modern Greek by a team of the Manolis Triandafilidis Foundation in Thessaloniki.
