This volume contains life stories of Tlingit elderly as a unique window on larger social, cultural and political Tlingit history. An introduction reviews key aspects of pre-contact social structure and ceremonial llife and traces the European impact, especially since 1867, and ensuing conflict and changes in language use and attitudes, culture, land use and world view.
