This panoramic volume on the history and use of the Gullah creole, focuses on connections of Gullah with the Carribean and with West Africa, an issue which reflects two opposite perspectives on its genesis, that is in situ creole genesis versus the reconstruction of a single pidgin ancestor, diffused to various locations.
