Annotation

This volume deals with the integration on an indigenous people, the Emberá, within the developing Panamanian nation-state, focusing upon everyday social life as it touches upon politics, development, economy, ecology, health and memory. It is shown how myth and magic, integral aspects of social life, are used to cope with and explain situations in which the facts are essentially unknowable.
