This volume deals with morphological and syntactic ergativity in Sm'algyax and with its implications in crosslinguistic perspective. It also summarizes the recent history of Coast Tsimshian, in particular the interface between this speech community and European missionary and educational efforts, ending with the 1972 governmental recognition of the importance of including Sm'algyax in the school curriculum.
