This article focuses on communicative practices in Swedish class assessment meetings, on how interactional patterns are reproduced by the participants in the meetings, and on how these patterns relate to the social organization of schools. The findings suggest that time constraints and a standardized agenda lead to a routinized pattern that generates continuity in the social construction of the students, and leads to a rather stereotyped student performance evaluation.
