Annotation

This paper briefly comments on the difficulty of translating literary texts and stage plays in particular, and uses a short passage from 'A Streetcar Named Desire' to illustrate why some translation strategies seem more appropriate than others under certain circumstances, and to shed some light on the role of the translator as a mediator.
