This paper discusses the processes of Lithuanian language development, revitalization and intellectualization against the background of foreign rule and state reformation. Since the restoration of independence in 1990, when Lithuanian regained its official status, language planning has officially been put in place for its continued normalization and intellectualization in some academic disciplines.
