This paper reports on a learner autonomy-study conducted with a group of tertiary English second language students at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The study examines students' views of their responsibilities and decision-making abilities in English second language learning, their motivation level and their actual language learning activities inside and outside the classroom.
