Annotation
This paper discusses some of the key concepts and complexities surrounding the advocacy of foreign language teaching for intercultural communicative competence. It examines the reconceptualization of courses, originally designed to teach communicative competence in a foreign language, to courses promoting intercultural communicative competence, and explains why present-day societal developments compel us to replace a teacher-led language-and-culture pedagogy with a student-centred autonomous learning approach.
